Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year)
Victoria Park fair, fireworks (if scheduled), busy temples. Some shops close for a few days; convenience stores and many restaurants stay open. Book hotels early; flower markets peak before New Year’s Eve.
Mid-Autumn Festival
Moon viewing, lanterns and park/waterfront gatherings. Mooncakes everywhere. Evening hotspots get crowded — watch last trains.
Dragon Boat (Tuen Ng) Festival
Races in multiple coastal districts. Arrive early and check traffic controls for your viewing site.
Cheung Chau Bun Festival
Usually in the fourth lunar month: parades and bun-related events on Cheung Chau. Extremely crowded — early ferry out, patience returning; most visitors day-trip from the city.
Christmas & winter lights
District and mall light displays plus New Year’s Eve events (organiser-dependent). December’s cooler air suits walking sightseeing.
Visitor tips
- Flights and hotels rise on long holidays — consider arriving just before/after peak days
- For fireworks or parades, check police/organiser transport plans
- Tropical cyclone season (~May–Nov) can disrupt outdoor events
